Who’s Neil?

Entrepreneur, cyclist, innovator, marketer, story-teller. I live and work at the intersection of business and cycling, which as you probably know is in Bath.

Sandwiched between the Cotswold Hills and the Mendips, Bath is a great place to be out on the bike. And on the M4 corridor between the high-tech centres of London and Bristol, Bath feels like a great place to be developing new business ideas that combine technology and cycling.

In other parts of my life, I’m founder of The Foundry, a radically different approach to innovation – working in partnership with large businesses to introduce to them the techniques of hack days and skunkworks, of agile software development and lean start-ups.

Until the start of 2012 I was UK Managing Director of Engine, a 650-person marketing & communications group, and Chairman of Jam, the UK’s first and fastest-growing social media agency, now part of Engine.

I came to Engine when the group acquired Digital Public, the consultancy I co-founded in 2002 to help organisations make full use of digital media to improve service delivery. From a kitchen-table start-up, Digital Public grew to more than 60 people, in the process twice winning the prestigious MCA award for most innovative consultancy in the UK.
